How to register your nick on GFTnet's IRC

  1. Make sure no one has registered the nick already. If your current nick is already registered then you would have seen a message when you connected saying "This nick is owned by someone else, identify or choose a different nick".
  2. To register the nick with services, type "/nickserv register password email" without the quotes (email is optional). It is highly recommended that you type this in the status window so you dont accidentially send it to a channel.
  3. If you are successful you should see a message stating:
-NickServ- Nickname YOUR_NICK registered under your account: YOUR_USER@HOST
-NickServ- Your password is YOUR_PASSWORD - remember this for later use.
  4. Excellent, now your nick is registered with the services. Now you can do things like register channels, talk in channels with mode +M set and request a custom vhost.

*** IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD. OPERS WILL NEVER ASK FOR IT AND NOBODY BUT YOU NEEDS IT. ***

How to get a custom vHost on GFTnet's IRC

  1. You must have a registered nick to request a vHost. If your nick is not registered, please follow the above guide.
  2. Type: "/hostserv request the.vhost.you.want.here" in the status window, without the quotes of course.
  3. Now you have to wait for an oper to approve your vhost, when/if it is approved you will recieve a message from MemoServ stating you have a new memo and the command to read it.
  4. Now that your vhost is approved, type "/hostserv on", without the quotes, in the status window to turn on your vHost.
  5. Your vHost automatically re-activate when you identify to NickServ the next time you connect.
  6. I recommend making sure your vHost has activated before joining any channels for extra paranoia!
